MPs urge continued fight against child malnutrition and stunting

The Plenary Sitting of the Chamber of Deputies on 13 November 2025 adopted key resolutions calling for stronger and sustained efforts to combat malnutrition and stunting among young children—critical steps toward securing a healthier and brighter future for the country.
Key recommendations to the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF):
1. Address ongoing challenges in the national fight against malnutrition and stunting
The Committee recommended that MIGEPROF urgently resolve persistent issues that continue to undermine the fight against malnutrition and stunting. These include:
• Poor preparation of balanced meals at the household level
• Low parental involvement
• Weak management of community kitchens
• Inadequate hygiene practices
The Ministry is expected to address these challenges within 12 months.
2. Strengthen home-based Early Childhood Development (ECD) services
MIGEPROF was also urged to improve the functioning of home-based ECD centers by addressing several barriers affecting service quality, including:
• Children who do not receive daily meals
• Limited training for caregivers
• Shortage of adequate learning and play materials needed for early brain development and school readiness
These improvements should also be implemented within 12 months.
This resolution follows the presentation of a follow-up report by the Committee on Social Affairs on the status of malnutrition and stunting among young children across the country.
